Evan J. Gilbert, CFA
Evan covers the Financials, REIT, Utilities sectors as well as the Aerospace and Defense industry. He joined Davenport’s Research Department in 2017 after earning a B.A. in Economics and Business from the Virginia Military Institute, with concentrations in Financial and Global Management.
Ann H. Gurkin
Ann primarily covers companies in the packaged food, beverage, tobacco, household care and personal care industries. Prior to joining Davenport in 1999, she was a portfolio manager and analyst at Crestar Asset Management. She also previously worked in the Research Department at Wheat, First Securities, Inc where she followed the food, beverage and tobacco industries. She has been recognized five times by the Wall Street Journal, three times by Forbes and twice by the FT | StarMine Analyst Awards for her work as an stock analyst. She earned her MBA from the University of Richmond, and her bachelor’s in English from Hollins University.
Drake Johnstone
Drake covers the energy, media, telecommunications and technology sectors. He has been a research analyst with Davenport since 1998. In its 2002 Best on the Street Analysts Survey, the Wall Street Journal recognized him as the No. 1 wireline telecommunications analyst. The Wall Street Journal also recognized him for his performance in the wireline telecom sector in its 2001 Best on the Street Analysts Survey. He was head of media and telecommunications research at Signet Bank from 1995 to 1997. He earned his MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and his bachelor’s from Yale University.
Jeffrey F. Omohundro, CFA
Jeff primarily focuses on the consumer discretionary sector, and has been selected by the Wall Street Journal six times as an All-Star Analyst in the publication’s Best on the Street rankings. He joined Davenport in 2012 as a research analyst, after serving in the same capacity at Wells Fargo Securities and its predecessors since 1995. The FT | StarMine Analyst Awards has ranked Jeff the No. 1 stock picker five times in the restaurant, food and beverage industries. During his career, he has served as lead analyst on more than 18 IPO and secondary offerings within his coverage group. He earned his bachelor’s and MBA from the University of Virginia.
Joel Ray, CFA
Joel’s research activities focus on the industrial and healthcare sectors. He joined Davenport in 2004 as the director of the Research Department. His career started with a federal healthcare agency, before he shifted to the for-profit hospital industry. In 1981, he entered the investment sector with J.C. Bradford, a Nashville-based regional brokerage and then spent several years in New York City with Smith Barney and Kidder Peabody. He came to Richmond in 1995, joining Wheat, First/Wachovia Securities where he was ranked the No. 1 healthcare analyst in the Wall Street Journal’s Best on the Street in 2001. He earned his bachelor’s in biology from Colgate University, and his MBA from Cornell University with a concentration in healthcare administration.
